Parc Barbieux

Parc Barbieux is a public park in Roubaix featuring ponds, streams, and waterfalls set across a large green area. The grounds also include playgrounds, pedal boats, and a restaurant for visitors to use.

The land was originally planned for a canal connecting the mining region to the North Sea, but was transformed into a park in 1863 instead. This change allowed an industrial city to provide public green space to its residents early on.

The park became a gathering place for the region after hosting the 1911 exhibition, reflecting how an industrial city wanted to offer its residents access to green space. Today, families and neighbors use it as a shared outdoor destination year-round.

The park operates from 9 AM to 7 PM during summer months and offers activities for visitors of all ages. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended since the grounds cover a large area.

The park preserves rock gardens and statues dating from its creation in the 1800s, offering a rare look at how parks were originally designed during that era. These elements allow visitors to see landscape design choices from over 150 years ago.
