Agency for French Education Abroad, French government agency
The Agency for French Education Abroad is a government organization that manages and oversees a global network of about 580 schools in nearly 140 countries. These schools educate close to 400,000 students using the French curriculum and prepare them for the French baccalaureate examination.
The agency was founded in 1990 to ensure French children abroad could continue their education and to promote French language and culture. Since then it has grown into a large network while working to maintain high education standards and support new schools opening worldwide.
These schools keep French language and culture alive while welcoming students from many different countries. About two-thirds of the students are from outside France and choose these schools for their commitment to quality education combined with French values and global perspectives.
Schools in this network must be approved by the French education authorities and follow the same curriculum as schools in France. The schools enable students to move between countries without interrupting their education because they maintain shared standards and recognized qualifications.
The agency supports a network of school alumni numbering about 600,000 members worldwide, many of whom now hold leadership positions in politics, business, arts, and science. This global network of former students remains strongly connected to France and actively promotes French language and culture in their professions and communities.
