Château de Montcony

Château de Montcony is a castle in the Bresse region with thick stone walls and multiple towers showing its medieval construction. The structure encompasses various sections, with access depending on operational status and owner permission.

Construction of the castle began in the 13th century as a feudal stronghold. In the 15th century, when Guillaume de Montcony held the title of lord, Duchess Isabella of Portugal was received here.

The La Rodde family shaped the castle from 1712 onward, leaving their coats of arms visible throughout various rooms. These marks of ownership tell the story of the people who lived here and shaped the building across generations.

The castle is private property and visits require advance notice and owner permission. Some areas of the building are not open to the public.

Between 2002 and 2005, the castle underwent extensive work on its roof and timber framing, earning recognition for preservation excellence in 2006. This careful restoration helped preserve the building's original character for future generations.
