Epinal American Cemetery, Military cemetery near Moselle River, France
The Epinal American Cemetery extends across 48 acres on a plateau, containing 5,255 graves of United States military personnel from World War II.
The 46th Quartermaster Company established this cemetery in October 1944 as U.S. forces advanced through northeastern France toward the Rhine River.
The memorial structure includes a chapel, operations map room, and walls inscribed with names of 424 soldiers registered as missing in action.
Located four miles southeast of Epinal on road D-157, the cemetery welcomes visitors daily from 9 AM to 5 PM except December 25 and January 1.
In May 1958, thirteen caskets representing unknown soldiers were placed here before one was selected for transfer to Arlington National Cemetery.
