Agen aqueduct, Navigable aqueduct in Le Passage and Agen, France

The Agen aqueduct extends 539 meters across the Garonne River with 23 arches, each measuring 20 meters in width and reaching 10 meters in height.

Engineer Jean-Baptiste de Baudre supervised the construction of this stone structure, which began in 1839 and became fully operational by 1849 after some interruptions.

The aqueduct received recognition as a monument historique inscrit in 2003, marking its importance in French engineering and architectural heritage.

The canal section measures 8.82 meters in width, requiring boats to wait for clearance before crossing as simultaneous passage remains impossible.

Stone blocks from Quercy region were specifically selected for the construction, making it the longest navigable aqueduct in France at completion time.
