Tumulus de Colombiers-sur-Seulles

Tumulus de Colombiers-sur-Seulles, Neolithic burial mound in Colombiers-sur-Seulles, France.

Tumulus de Colombiers-sur-Seulles is a Neolithic burial mound made of earth and stone that rises above the surrounding landscape. Inside sits a burial chamber lined with stone blocks where human remains were once placed.

This structure dates back roughly 6000 years to the Neolithic period and served as an important burial monument for early people living in this area. Scientists found burned bones and objects during early excavations that revealed much about this ancient culture.

The monument shows how people in this region honored and buried their dead through structures specifically designed for that purpose. It reveals much about the beliefs and daily practices of this early community.

The mound sits on a high plateau with good views of the valley below and is fairly easy to access if exploring the area. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes as the ground can be uneven, especially after rain.

This burial mound is one of the few of its kind in the region and displays a distinctive construction method found nowhere else in quite this form. Its location on the plateau suggests that early settlers may have chosen it as a vantage point to observe the surrounding landscape.
