Thiou

The Thiou is a waterway in Annecy that flows from the lake through the city center before joining another river downstream. Several bridges span it, connecting different parts of the city while providing views and access to the surrounding areas.

During the Middle Ages, the waterway powered many mills that were central to flour production and manufacturing in the region. This role shaped the city's growth for centuries.

Street art installations decorate the pylons along the waterway, with rotating exhibitions that transform the riverside into an outdoor gallery. These works give the path its character and encourage people to pause and look around.

The waterway has walking paths along its banks where you can stroll, jog, or sit and watch the city go by. Most sections are easy to reach and offer plenty of places to rest and enjoy a break.

Near the lower part of the city, an old dam structure has been converted into an artificial wave where freshwater surfers practice their skills. This unexpected feature brings a modern twist to the waterway's long history.
