Château du Touvet

Château du Touvet is a castle in Le Touvet with five towers, a moat, and a drawbridge protecting the core structure. The grounds include seven hectares of formal gardens with water features and terraced levels spreading across the landscape.

The castle was founded in 1300 and originally served as a defense against threats from the Duchy of Savoy. It remained in the same family's hands throughout its history, preserving its character across generations.

The castle maintains regular guided tours in French, with English language materials available for international visitors exploring the architecture and gardens.

Visit on dry days to fully explore the gardens, which require walking across uneven terrain and multiple levels. Comfortable shoes are essential since you will spend time navigating the slopes and pathways throughout the grounds.

The gardens contain an 18th-century water stairway system that connects multiple garden levels through hydraulic engineering. This mechanical system still operates today without modern pumps or electricity.
