Château de Menthon-Saint-Bernard, Medieval castle in Haute-Savoie, France
The castle rises 200 meters above Lake Annecy, featuring four levels with 105 rooms and multiple towers constructed between the 13th and 19th centuries.
Built around 923 as a wooden guard post, the fortress controlled access to the ancient Roman road and transformed into a stone structure after 1180.
The castle library contains 12,000 volumes predating 1800, including manuscripts with illustrations created by medieval monks.
The castle opens its doors from May to September, with guided tours available daily from 10 AM to 7 PM during July and August.
A miniature railway system installed in the castle kitchen transported food throughout the building until 1958.
