Abbaye de Droiteval

Abbaye de Droiteval is a Cistercian monastery set within a forest about two kilometers from where Ourche Valley meets the Saône River. The buildings occupy this woodland setting in a natural landscape.

Founded in 1130 by Lord Aubert de Darney, the monastery started as a women's convent. In 1433 it came under Morimond's control and became a priory.

The church contains a Haerpfer organ with 51 stops and 3,800 pipes brought from Nancy, shaping the interior's character and sound.

The site has operated as an art and cultural center since 2004 with studios for various visual artists. Visitors can observe artists at work and view exhibitions on the grounds.

The walls are built from local sandstone about one meter thick, with varying stone patterns revealing multiple construction phases. This variation shows how the site expanded over centuries.
