Gare des Carbonnets, Heritage railway station in Asnières-sur-Seine, France
Gare des Carbonnets is a decommissioned railway station in Asnières-sur-Seine featuring stone foundations, metal framework, glazed brick walls, and ornamental ceramic tiles. The building displays the industrial construction style typical of late 1800s railway architecture with its sturdy materials and detailed craftsmanship.
The station building was originally constructed in 1878 for the Paris World's Fair and later relocated to its current site. After storm damage in 1897, the structure was reconstructed and successively served as repair workshops, an electric railway terminus, and a storage facility before being abandoned.
The name comes from the coal deliveries that once moved through this site and shaped the neighborhood. Today, visitors can see the original brick walls and decorative tilework that reflect the craftsmanship of that era.
The site is accessible from outside where you can view the building's exterior features. The location sits within a residential neighborhood that is easily reachable by public transportation.
The building was designed by architect Juste Lisch, a key figure in railway station design of that period. His innovative approach combining sturdy construction with decorative craftsmanship made it a notable example of late 1800s railway architecture.
