Arras Flying Services Memorial, War memorial obelisk in Faubourg d'Amiens Cemetery, France

Arras Flying Services Memorial is a tall stone obelisk topped with a bronze globe located within Faubourg d'Amiens Cemetery in northern France. The structure marks the final resting place honor for Royal Flying Corps and Royal Air Force personnel who died in the conflict.

The memorial was unveiled in 1932 and carries the names of 990 Royal Flying Corps and Royal Air Force personnel who died during World War I. It was created to honor those who had no known graves or final resting places.

The memorial stands within Faubourg d'Amiens Cemetery as part of a large collection of First World War sites recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visitors sense immediately that this place holds deep meaning for the families of pilots whose names are carved into the stone.

The cemetery is open daily and has multiple entrances, including a wheelchair-accessible gate at Rue Berthe Warret for easier navigation. Wear comfortable shoes since the grounds cover a substantial area that invites walking.

The bronze globe crowning the obelisk is positioned to show the exact astronomical location of Earth on November 11, 1918. This careful detail transforms the memorial into a moment literally frozen in stone and metal.
