The Valbonne Abbey features a Romanesque church with characteristic vaulted ceilings and architectural elements from the Chalaisien monastic tradition.
The Chalais monks established the abbey in 1199 with permission from Olivier, Bishop of Antibes, and constructed the main church completed by 1230.
The abbey houses the Museum Le Vieux Valbonne, displaying rural life artifacts and preserving an original dormitory within its stone walls.
The abbey underwent substantial restoration work between 1969 and 1975, leading to its classification as a historical monument in December 1984.
The structure incorporates an 18th-century Penitents chapel and a 19th-century bell tower, adding architectural layers to the original medieval design.
