Auditorium de Dijon, Opera house and concert hall in Dijon, France
Auditorium de Dijon is a modern performance building with two triangular sections and a bridge structure positioned above street level. The facades are clad in light stone and the interior seats around 1600 spectators across multiple levels with access from several entry points.
The city of Dijon decided to build a new auditorium in 1988, and the project was designed by the architecture firm Arquitectonica. After construction, the building opened in 1998 with a concert by the National Orchestra of France.
The venue hosts opera and ballet performances that draw audiences throughout the year, serving as a gathering place for theater and musical events in the city. This mix of local and international artists makes it a key cultural hub for the region.
The building is easy to access, with elevators, escalators, and a spiral staircase from four different entry points. Visitors should allow time to navigate the multiple levels and find the best way to their seating area.
The hall's acoustics are enhanced by eight gold reflectors against a blue background and crystal light sources that contribute to a sound quality that attracts renowned orchestras and conductors. These carefully designed elements are visible to visitors and add to the special experience of attending a performance.
