Cascade de la Fouge

Cascade de la Fouge, Natural waterfall in Cerdon, France.

Cascade de la Fouge is a waterfall in the Jura Mountains that drops 160 meters through limestone rock, forming multiple tiers as it descends. The water flows across different levels created by the varying hardness of the stone layers.

The waterfall developed over millions of years as water slowly eroded the limestone layers of the Jura. This gradual erosion process shaped the current landscape with its distinctive stepped formation.

Local outdoor communities regularly organize guided nature walks to the waterfall, teaching visitors about the regional flora and fauna.

The hike to the waterfall follows marked trails and covers around 15 kilometers round trip starting from a small parking area. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and plan for several hours, as the terrain is uneven and passes through forested sections.

The site now displays warning signs about potential rockfall that have been posted in recent years. Despite these notices, the location remains accessible to visitors who accept the personal risk involved.
