Chapelle Saint-Yves de Rennes, Gothic chapel in central Rennes, France.
Chapelle Saint-Yves is a Gothic chapel in central Rennes with a bell tower at its front. The building has a single elongated nave, a wooden ceiling, and features many carved figures adorning its walls.
The chapel was built in 1494 as part of a hospital dedicated to Saint-Yves, replacing an earlier 14th-century structure. In the 19th century, the building briefly served as a hardware store before eventually becoming what it is today.
The chapel now serves as a center for architecture exhibitions, where visitors learn about regional building styles and techniques. The space shows how the community preserves knowledge about local construction traditions.
The chapel is easily accessible via Metro line A at République station or line B at Saint-Germain station. Several bus routes stop nearby, making it convenient to reach from anywhere in the city center.
The walls display carved animals with protruding tongues and curious faces that seem to watch visitors passing through. A sleeping rabbit carved among these ornaments is easy to overlook but adds a playful touch to the decoration.
