La chapelle Sainte-Marie, Chapel building in Nevers, France

The Sainte-Marie Chapel features a classical architectural design with a baroque facade, three houses merged into one religious structure on Saint-Martin Street.

Louise-Marie de Gonzague, who later became Queen of Poland, laid the first stone of this chapel in June 1639 during its construction period.

The chapel contains a remarkable altarpiece created in 1641 by sculptor Claude Collignon, with black marble columns crowned by golden capitals framing the Visitation painting.

Located at the beginning of Saint-Martin Street in Nevers, this religious monument remains open to visitors interested in French religious architecture.

The chapel stands as the last remaining structure of the Visitation monastery, built between 1623 and 1634, featuring a rare baroque style in this region.
