Château d'Agnou

Château d'Agnou is a Renaissance castle in Maule featuring a main front decorated with triangular pediments and vaulted stone ceilings on the ground level. The structure displays typical French 16th century architectural elements with carefully crafted stonework throughout.

Nicolas de Harlay commissioned this castle in the 16th century on the site of an older fortress that was destroyed in 1357 by Charles of Navarre. The new structure rose on this historic location as a statement of Renaissance architecture and family prosperity.

The castle displays French Renaissance design in its facade and decorative details that shaped building practices of its time. Visitors can see these features today in the stonework and window arrangements throughout the structure.

This castle is accessible only by advance reservation and guided tour, so visitors should plan ahead. It sits in the Yvelines department near Paris and is easily reached by car.

The round dovecote from the 16th century could house over 6000 pigeons and was one of the largest structures of its kind in the region. This impressive building shows how wealthy the family was and how important pigeons were as a food source at that time.
