Château de Dracy-lès-Couches

Château de Dracy-lès-Couches is a castle in Burgundy featuring a square keep and round tower erected in the 15th century. The complex sits on elevated ground and commands views of the countryside through its solid stone structures that have endured for centuries.

The fortress was originally constructed in 1298 and underwent major rebuilding in 1547 under the direction of Morin de Cromey. This renovation phase significantly reshaped the structure and introduced new architectural features.

The towers bear traces of different building periods that reveal how construction methods evolved over centuries. Walking around the structure, you can observe the contrast between older stonework and later additions that mark key moments in its past.

The castle is privately owned, so access is limited and most areas are closed to the public. However, the wine cellar remains open to visitors and provides a look inside the complex.

In 1728, Jacques Bouchet designed and built an extraordinary wine cellar connecting two existing towers. This underground space represents a technical marvel of its era and demonstrates the ingenuity applied to practical storage needs.
