Château de Réquistat

The château de Réquistat is a castle in Jabrun featuring round towers, narrow openings for defense, and stone walls that form the main structures of the site. The building displays the defensive design typical of medieval fortifications in the Cantal region.

The castle was built in the 14th century and belonged to Pons de Beaumont in the early 1400s. By the 1500s, the property came under the control of the Estaing family and remained with them for generations.

The site developed around a priory, with the church being rebuilt in the early 1800s and reflecting the religious role this place held for the surrounding community. The chapel remains a focal point of the grounds and connects visitors to the spiritual history of the region.

The site sits on elevated ground and is reached through the commune of Jabrun, which provides clear reference points for visitors. Walking to the grounds is straightforward and offers a natural way to approach the structures.

The fortress was originally called Castrum Vallatus and underwent major reconstruction after its destruction. This shift from a military stronghold to a livable home illustrates how castle architecture adapted to new ways of living over time.
