Château de Saint-Alban, Medieval fortified castle in Saint-Alban-sur-Limagnole, France.
The castle features four corner towers surrounding a rectangular courtyard with a three-story Renaissance gallery constructed from local red sandstone blocks.
First mentioned in the 12th century, the castle became a psychiatric hospital in 1821 when Brother Hilarion established medical care facilities for mental patients.
Located on the Via Podensis pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, the castle played a central role during the Beast of Gevaudan hunts in 1764.
The tourist office occupies the ground floor, organizing temporary exhibitions and performances in the courtyard during summer months.
The wooden ceiling in one of the side chambers displays painted medallions depicting regional feudal castles from different historical periods.
