Château de Saint-Denis-sur-Loire

Château de Saint-Denis-sur-Loire is a castle along the Loire River that blends medieval and Renaissance architecture across four hectares of gardens and terraces. The property displays layers of construction from different periods that shaped the building over centuries.

The Hurault family acquired the medieval residence in 1341 and transformed it across centuries with successive additions. Classical elements were added during the 18th century, reshaping the castle's appearance.

Catherine de Medicis and Marie de Medicis frequently visited the castle to benefit from its mineral springs, which were known for their healing properties.

The castle sits along the river and is easily walkable, with gardens laid out on level paths for comfortable exploration. Plan enough time to see the exterior grounds, as they cover a substantial area.

The gardens vanished for two centuries but are now being restored based on original Renaissance plans discovered by the current owners. This reconstruction brings an important chapter of the estate's garden history back to life.
