Château de Kerangat

Château de Kerangat is a castle in Plumelec that combines medieval foundations with 19th-century reconstruction. It features neo-Gothic elements including two projecting sections on its garden side and a corner watchtower.

The castle was founded by Jean de Lesmays starting in 1427 and later passed to the Evenar, Le Maignan, and Martin families. During the 19th century it underwent major rebuilding that created its current appearance with neo-Gothic details.

The residence reflects the tastes of local nobility, with its park and arboretum showing how wealthy families shaped their estates. Today an association manages these grounds, blending private ownership with public access to the gardens.

The grounds are maintained by an association and open to visitors during seasonal events. The park and arboretum are best explored when weather is dry and the grounds are well-marked for walking.

The structure clearly shows traces of its long history, with old medieval walls standing alongside newer neo-Gothic towers and ornaments. This makes the building an interesting example of how a family reinvented their fortress over centuries.
