Château de Kernévez

Château de Kernévez is a four-story neoclassical mansion built around a central pavilion topped with a lantern tower and accessed by a double staircase. The grounds cover about 37 hectares and include granite stables, formal gardens, a pond, and remnants of earlier structures from different periods.

The mansion was built after 1850 for the Guébriant family by Parisian architect Froelicher on the site of an earlier castle called La Villeneuve. This succession of buildings shows how the family adapted its residence over time to match changing styles and needs.

The château represents a shift away from local building traditions, introducing Parisian architectural ideas to the Breton countryside. Its large grounds with formal gardens have shaped how people experience the landscape here for generations.

The castle remains closed to the public on regular days but opens its grounds during European Heritage Days held in September each year. Plan a visit around this annual event if you want to explore both the buildings and the landscaped grounds.

A schist dolmen from prehistoric times sits within the park grounds, showing that people have used this area for thousands of years. This ancient stone structure amid the formal gardens connects multiple layers of history in one location.
