Château de Montalivet-Lagrange, Heritage castle in Saint-Bouize, France.

The Château de Montalivet-Lagrange is a castle in Saint-Bouize featuring a central block topped by a mansard roof and two side pavilions built from brick and stone. The structure displays symmetrical elements typical of 18th-century architecture.

The original fortress is mentioned in 1090 as the property of Rainaud de Montfaucon and underwent several major reconstructions over the centuries. Each transformation left its mark on the building's current form.

The castle welcomed Saint Vincent de Paul in 1647, a moment that became part of the region's religious memory. This visit reflects how the place served as a crossroads for spiritual figures.

The castle is privately owned and not regularly open to visitors, though it holds official recognition as a protected historical monument since 1999. The best views come from walking around the exterior in the surrounding area.

In the 19th century the gardens were redesigned under Pierre Fontaine's direction, blending French formal gardens with English landscape ideas. This combination of styles reflects the eclectic taste of that period.
