The rectangular castle features a central courtyard measuring 23 by 35 meters, with three residential buildings and a main tower dominating the structure.

Built in the 10th century on a former Gallo-Roman settlement, the castle underwent reconstruction in the 14th century under Guillaume de Chatillon's direction.

The castle represents the architectural evolution of French nobility residences, combining military fortifications with residential comfort through different centuries.

The Castle Loop hiking trail begins near the castle, extending 11.6 kilometers with an elevation gain of 150 meters through marked paths.

From its strategic position, the castle offers a 100-kilometer panorama spanning from the Bernese Alps to Fort l'Ecluse and Mont-Blanc.
