Château de Saint-Martin-de-Seignanx

Château de Saint-Martin-de-Seignanx is a Renaissance castle with an L-shaped design and three towers strategically positioned. Two rounded towers anchor the north side while another stands on the south, each topped with flat roof tiles in the regional style.

Construction began in the late 16th century when Jean de Saint-Martin initiated the project. A major transformation occurred in 1640 when Bertrand de Saint-Martin and Marie de Lucmayours carried out extensive renovations that reshaped the building's character.

The names of Bertrand de Saint-Martin and Marie de Lucmayours appear carved into several ceilings and the main staircase dome. These marks reflect how the family displayed their status and influence throughout the building.

The castle received monument historique protection in 1994, ensuring ongoing preservation and maintenance. Before visiting, it is wise to check current access conditions as the site may have limited hours or require advance arrangements.

During the French Revolution, the estate was confiscated from its family and sold to a merchant. Arnaud Daguerre, a Bayonne businessman, purchased the property in 1804 and began a new chapter in its history.
