Château de Selore

Château de Selore is a historic castle in Saint-Yan with a rectangular central block and two narrow wings extending from each side, topped by steep roofs and ornamental pilasters. The property includes outbuildings such as stables, kennels, and a round dovecote adjacent to the main residence.

A fortress was originally constructed by Burgundian troops to guard the western side of Charolais county, but it was destroyed during the Religious Wars. The present castle was subsequently rebuilt from the ruins of this earlier fortification.

The ground floor rooms display painted ceilings and wall patterns with scrollwork designs that reflect 17th century French tastes. These decorative details reveal how people of that era chose to furnish and embellish their living spaces.

The castle is privately owned and normally closed to visitors, though portions sometimes open during special heritage events. Checking local event schedules ahead of time helps you learn about occasional visiting opportunities.

The northern section contains a round dovecote that now displays a collection of hunting equipment, offering an unexpected cultural treasure within the grounds. This former service building was repurposed to showcase remarkable pieces from historical hunting traditions.
