Château de Septème, Medieval castle in Septème, France

The stone fortification stands on a hill featuring high defensive walls, two towers, and multiple architectural elements from the 14th and 15th centuries.

The castle's foundations originate from a Roman military camp along the ancient road connecting Vienne to Milan, with documented existence since 1066.

The fortress served as a residence for King Charles IX and Catherine de Medici during their stay in July 1564, marking its role in French royal history.

The castle opens for guided tours with departures at 14:15, 15:15, and 17:15, offering regular demonstrations of medieval weaponry including a trebuchet.

The gardens, designed by Gabriel Luizet for Count Jacques d'Albon, combine French formal style with an orchard created at the start of the 20th century.
