Château de Marqueyssac, Historic castle and gardens in Vézac, France

The castle features extensive gardens with 150,000 boxwood trees shaped into rounded forms across six kilometers of limestone pathways and elevated terraces.

The château construction started in the 15th century, reaching completion in the 17th century under Bertrand Vernet de Marqueyssac during Louis XIV's reign.

The gardens display French horticultural methods with boxwoods cut by hand, incorporating Italian cypress trees and traditional stone architecture throughout the estate.

The site opens daily from 10:00 AM, with extended hours during summer months and an electric shuttle service to reach the Belvedere viewpoint.

From its position 130 meters above the Dordogne River, the castle grounds provide views of neighboring Castelnaud and Beynac castles.
