Château de Mausson

Château de Mausson is a medieval fortress in Landivy, constructed on elevated ground above the Airon River. The site contains a main residential building and several additional structures, some still intact and others reduced to ruins.

The current structure rose in the 15th and 16th centuries, replacing an earlier building destroyed during the Hundred Years War. It then served several noble families until political shifts altered its ownership.

The name comes from the Mausson family, who held power here for generations and shaped the surrounding area. Visitors can sense this local connection today by walking the grounds and observing the remaining structures that reflect their influence.

The grounds open to visitors during Heritage Days, while the exterior can be seen from nearby pathways year-round. Wear sturdy shoes as the terrain is uneven and some areas can become slippery in wet conditions.

The eastern section of the park features an extensive water basin that spreads across a large area and defines much of the landscape. This water feature is a rare remnant from the era of grand estates and shows how much effort once went into designing such properties.
