Château du Rocher-Portail

Château du Rocher-Portail is a granite castle in Maen Roch with a central building and two perpendicular wings. Inside are twelve furnished rooms, a chapel, and a Renaissance gallery.

The castle was built between 1586 and 1607 by architect Salomon de Brosse for Gilles Ruellan, a confidant of King Henri IV and Cardinal Richelieu. The project reflects the influence of these powerful figures on its architectural design.

The rooms display daily life of noble families and their servants through furnished spaces and personal belongings. You can see how different living conditions were between those who ruled and those who served.

Visiting is best done during daytime hours and requires comfortable shoes for exploring the various levels. The rooms are spread across multiple floors, so plan time for a leisurely tour.

The castle offers special events where historical rooms are transformed into settings for interactive experiences. These activations bring history to life in unexpected ways and make a visit into something beyond a standard tour.
