Botanical garden of Upper Brittany

The property began in 1847 around Château de la Foltière, which held significance during the French Revolution. Over time it evolved into a planned collection of gardens representing different design traditions.

The garden brings together different gardening styles from around the world, showing visitors how various cultures design outdoor spaces. You walk between formal French layouts, flowing English landscapes, and Japanese sections, each telling its own story through plants and paths.

The garden is walkable via several connected paths that allow both longer visits and shorter routes. Comfortable shoes are advisable since the terrain is varied with many winding pathways to explore.

The collection holds thousands of plant species specially adapted to the region's acidic soils. The extensive plantings of rhododendrons, azaleas, and magnolias are especially striking, providing varied flower colors throughout the seasons.
