Château du Vert-Bois

Château du Vert-Bois is a castle in Bondues featuring detailed stone facades and two Chinese pavilions positioned near the main structure. The complex also includes a gatehouse and displays traditional French architectural design throughout.

The castle was built in 1743 and received official monument protection in 1962. The two Chinese pavilions were granted additional heritage protection through a decree in 1987.

The chapel pavilion and games room on the grounds reflect how French nobility lived and spent their leisure time in the 18th century. These buildings reveal the tastes and preferences of the residents who inhabited the estate.

The castle is a private residence and visits require advance arrangements with the owners. The grounds are best viewed from outside during warmer months when the landscaping and architecture are most visible.

The two Chinese pavilions are an unexpected feature for an 18th-century French castle and reflect the European fascination with Asian architecture during that period. These structures make the ensemble a rare example of this cultural blend in the region.
