Château d'Essendiéras

Château d'Essendiéras consists of two separate castles on a large estate, with a manor house dating from the 15th century and a residential building from the 19th century standing just meters apart. The entire property spans a vast landscape and offers multiple accommodation options along with leisure facilities.

The estate changed hands in 1794 during the French Revolution when Pierre Antoine Pouquet acquired it, serving as president of the revolutionary committee for the Excideuil district at that time. This period marked a turning point for many French noble properties that found new owners.

The castle shows how medieval defensive structures evolved into comfortable residential spaces for the nobility. Walking through the grounds, you can see how each building phase reflects different needs and tastes of its inhabitants.

The grounds are well laid out for visitors, with accommodation options in houses, rooms, suites, and apartments spread across the domain. A golf course with training facilities is also available if you want to try the sport during your stay.

Since 2019, the estate has embraced green technology by placing solar installations across much of its former orchard land. This modern approach merges historic buildings with contemporary sustainable energy solutions.
