Château de Prades, Medieval castle in Sainte-Enimie, France
The castle stands on a rocky promontory with a main residential building in the south and a chapel in the north, enclosed by defensive walls.
Built in the 12th century as a residence for the prior of Sainte-Enimie, the castle became property of the Sainte-Enimie Abbey in 1283 for defensive purposes.
The structure reflects the medieval architecture of Lozère region through its vaulted rooms, spiral staircase, and massive square tower at the northwest corner.
The castle, now privately owned, received historical monument status in 1971 and requires advance arrangements for any potential visits to the grounds.
During the Religious Wars, the castle successfully resisted attacks from Protestant captain Merle, preventing western advancement of opposing forces.
