Château de Rocheblave, Castle in Ispagnac, France

The Château de Rocheblave is a castle at the entrance of the Tarn Gorges in Lozère, overlooking the surrounding valley from its elevated position. The structure combines residential and defensive elements across multiple stories, showing the typical architecture of the region.

The castle was built in the early 1600s and changed ownership from the Lauberge family to M. de Vergèze d'Aubussargues in the mid-18th century. These ownership changes reflected the political and social upheaval the region experienced during that period.

The castle displays building methods from the Gévaudan region with details dating to the 16th century that remain visible today. These features tell the story of local construction techniques and craftsmanship from that era.

The castle is reachable via the D907bis road, which connects Quézac and Sainte-Enimie and offers good access. Several other sites of interest lie nearby, making it easy to combine a visit with exploring the surrounding area.

A former owner, Louis Jourdan, served as a deputy of Lozère from 1886 to 1905, linking the castle to local political history. His time there shows how country estates were connected to regional power and influence during that era.
