Château du Plessis-Fortia, Listed historical castle in Huisseau-en-Beauce, France
The Château du Plessis-Fortia is a castle in Huisseau-en-Beauce featuring a two-story central building flanked by raised pavilions, all covered with slate roofs. The entire complex is surrounded by dry moats that once provided defensive protection.
The estate was purchased in 1599 by Bernard de Fortia III, who then initiated construction of the castle over the following two decades. The building work extended through the early years of the 17th century.
The building displays architectural features characteristic of the Louis XIII style, drawing from published collections of architectural designs from that era. These design principles remain visible in the facades and overall appearance of the structure today.
This is a private property and visits are not available without advance arrangement. Anyone interested in viewing the protected facades and grounds should contact the owner ahead of time.
The entrance is framed by two isolated pavilions that once flanked a drawbridge connecting to the main castle. The initials BF remain visible on one of the upper story dormers, marking the founder's presence.
