The commandery is a medieval establishment positioned on a hilltop overlooking the valleys of the Salat and Garonne rivers. The site includes a Romanesque chapel featuring distinctive geometric and astronomical designs in its interior decoration.
Founded in 1142, the establishment received substantial land grants from regional nobility. It became the most significant Templar site in the Haute-Garonne region.
The chapel interior displays 13th-century frescoes incorporating astronomical and geometric patterns that reflect specific dates and locations.
The location sits roughly 20 kilometers east of Saint-Gaudens and 60 kilometers southeast of Toulouse. Its position near ancient trade routes made it accessible to travelers in the medieval period.
The Saint-Christophe church at this location maintains its original Templar architecture, making it the only such structure in France.
