La Barben Castle

La Barben Castle is a stone fortress perched on a rocky outcrop in Provence, rising above two adjacent valleys with towers and turrets. The structure features multiple terraces that overlook the surrounding landscape and countryside below.

The fortress first appeared in historical records in 1064 in a document from Saint Victor Abbey near Marseille, and the Forbin family controlled it for about five centuries afterward. The 1909 Lambesc earthquake damaged the keep significantly, prompting major reconstruction efforts that shaped its current form.

The rooms inside carry decorative work by painter François Marius Granet, while the grounds feature gardens designed by André Le Nôtre, the same artist who created Versailles. These artistic touches shape how the space feels and how visitors move through it.
