Château de Balincourt, Historical castle in Arronville and Menouville, France

Château de Balincourt is a castle located in the Sausseron Valley area, straddling the municipalities of Arronville and Menouville in Val-d'Oise, France. The main building features classical architecture with outbuildings, formal gardens, and grounds that spread across the local landscape.

The castle was built around 1780 by architect Denis-Claude Liégeon for Charles-Louis Testu de Balincourt, reflecting the architectural taste of that era. During the 20th century, it underwent various modifications that changed how the property was used and maintained.

The château's name comes from Charles-Louis Testu de Balincourt, for whom Denis-Claude Liégeon built it around 1780. Liégeon also designed the chapel, whose oval interior held eight Ionic columns and an altarpiece by Philippe de Champaigne. A colossal statue of the marshal de Balincourt, the client's uncle, by the sculptor Bocciardi, once stood at the end of the avenue on a circular tree-lined square.

The castle remains privately owned, so public access is limited and visitors should check in advance about visiting possibilities. The best time to visit is when special openings or guided tours are offered to view the grounds and buildings.

A colossal 24-foot statue of Marshal de Balincourt, the commissioner's uncle, by sculptor Bocciardi once stood at the end of the avenue on a circular tree-ringed square, encircled by a balustrade and set on a pedestal decorated with trophies of arms and inscriptions. The marshal died childless in 1770 and left the Balincourt estate to his nephew.
