Baulx Castle

Baulx Castle stands on elevated ground with a central tower, dry moat, fortified walls, and stone structures built for defense and observation. The site is partially ruined but clearly shows its original purpose as a fortress commanding the surrounding landscape.

The fortress began as a watchtower in the 12th century and expanded during the 13th century. Over the following centuries it received various modifications until it fell into the ruined state documented in the 18th century.

The Compagnons de Tras Castel association organizes theatrical performances on an open-air stage along the castle ramparts. These events bring the place to life and make it a venue where visitors can watch plays against a medieval backdrop.

The site is best visited during the summer months when it is more accessible. Plan enough time to explore the fortifications and the elevated location at your own pace.

A medieval garden growing on the grounds cultivates historical plant varieties maintained by dedicated volunteers. This green space gives visitors insight into which plants were once grown at the fortress.
