Château de Beaumont-sur-Oise

The rectangular Romanesque keep rises 25 meters high with 5-meter-wide buttresses, forming the central structure of this fortified complex.

Count Mathieu constructed the stone castle between 1090 and 1151 to replace a wooden fortification that had stood since the third century.

The castle grounds host regular archaeological excavations that have revealed remains of an eleventh-century monastery beneath the current structure.

Visitors can access the castle ruins throughout the year and observe the ongoing restoration work that started in 1997.

The structure sustained substantial damage from French artillery during the English occupation from 1420 to 1435, leaving marks still visible today.
