Château de Bien-Assis

Château de Bien-Assis is a medieval manor house in Montluçon featuring a square tower, a circular turret, and a crenelated terrace. The building stands on a promontory that overlooks the city below.

The building was constructed in the 15th century by Colas de Peret, treasurer to Duke Jean II of Bourbon. It later passed through several noble families before changing hands again in the 20th century.

The ground floor displays biblical wall paintings from the Religious Wars period, created based on period engravings. These images show how residents once decorated their living spaces with religious imagery.

The building now houses historical collections and a library maintained by the Friends of Montluçon Society. These holdings span several centuries and provide insight into the area's past through their accumulated materials.

A natural spring feeds directly into the vaulted cellar beneath the main building. This underground water system was essential to the original operation of the estate.
