Château de la Grée de Callac, Renaissance castle in Monteneuf, France.

Château de la Grée de Callac is a Renaissance castle built from granite with slate roofing that spans across two communes. The estate contains several buildings including a chapel, orangery, stables, and a hunting lodge situated throughout the grounds.

Built between 1892 and 1908 for Count Ludovic du Bot, the castle represents one of the last large-scale château constructions of the 19th century. Its completion marked the end of an era when wealthy families still invested in grand country estates.

The name refers to the meadows and grain fields that have surrounded the estate for generations and shaped its character. Visitors can see how the landscaped grounds and gardens reflect the way wealthy families once arranged their country properties.

The estate spreads across two communes, so visitors should be prepared to explore different sections of the grounds. Plan adequate time to see all the buildings and gardens that make up the complete property.

During the late 1980s, video game company Ubisoft briefly used the castle to house their programming team. This unusual period shows how historic sites can serve unexpected purposes in modern times.
