Donjon du Temple, Medieval keep in Chazey-Bons, France.
Donjon du Temple is a medieval stone tower in Chazey-Bons with a square base, a pointed arch doorway on the western side, and arrow slits running along three walls. The structure preserves the essential features of a defensive tower from that period.
The tower was built in the 13th century as a defensive structure and lost its upper floor during modifications in the 19th century. This alteration permanently changed its original appearance as a complete fortress tower.
The keep represents regional military architecture and received official recognition as a protected historical monument through registration on May 24, 1973.
The tower remains in private ownership and requires advance permission to visit. It is best to contact the owner ahead of time to arrange access.
The structure sits on cadastral section B plot 336, divided between two municipalities with the tower in Chazey-Bons and adjacent buildings in Belley.
