Keremma Dunes

Keremma Dunes form an extensive coastal protected area with sand and grassland formations stretching between the Bay of Goulven and Anse du Kernic. The site encompasses different habitats with noticeable elevation changes and open grasslands crisscrossed by maintained walking paths.

In the 19th century, large-scale drainage projects transformed the original dune landscapes into farmland. These interventions shaped the region for generations until later conservation efforts refocused attention on protecting coastal habitats.

The name refers directly to the sand formations that define the landscape and are experienced by visitors as a natural boundary between land and sea. The pathways wind through grasslands where the relationship between coastal protection and local nature becomes immediately clear.

Access from designated parking areas is well organized, and the paths are maintained for various activities. Visitors should bring weather-appropriate clothing, as the coastal location brings changeable conditions and paths can become challenging when wet.

The area serves as a crucial stopover for migratory birds that arrive in large numbers during winter months and shape the landscape experience. Observing these seasonal movements gives visitors insight into the natural rhythms that characterize this coastal space.
