Fort Villeras, Military fort in Saclay, France
Fort Villeras extends over eight hectares and features a moat measuring ten meters deep and twelve meters wide around its perimeter.
Built between 1876 and 1881 following France's defeat in the Franco-Prussian War, Fort Villeras formed part of the Séré de Rivières fortification system.
The fort first opened its doors to public visitors during the European Heritage Days in September 2015, allowing access to its military architecture.
The fort contains 59 rooms designed to accommodate 770 military personnel and includes water cisterns with a capacity of 433,000 liters.
Since 1946, Fort Villeras has housed the DGA Essais propulseurs, a testing center for aeronautical propulsion systems under French Ministry of Defense supervision.
