Dent du Chat

Dent du Chat is a limestone peak in the Mont du Chat mountain range in eastern Savoie, standing at 1,390 meters above sea level. The summit offers panoramic views across the surrounding valleys and alpine terrain.

The mountain formed through tectonic movements during the Alpine orogeny millions of years ago, which shaped the limestone deposits into its current form. These geological processes continue to influence the alpine landscape today.

The name 'Dent du Chat' means 'Cat's Tooth' in French, reflecting the sharp pointed shape that stands out from the surrounding landscape. This distinctive form is visible from many vantage points across the region.

Hikers can reach the summit using marked trails that start from Saint-Paul-sur-Yenne, with the Route du relais du Mont du Chat offering vehicle access for initial leg of the journey. Wear sturdy footwear and prepare for changing weather, as alpine conditions shift quickly throughout the day.

The summit attracts paragliders due to its elevation and the thermal conditions that form across the region. These rising air currents allow experienced pilots to stay aloft for extended periods while exploring the alpine terrain.
