Fontaine de la Croix-de-Pierre

The Fontaine de la Croix-de-Pierre is a Gothic fountain in the heart of Rouen standing where two ancient streets meet. The structure features carved stone with pointed arches and intricate details that are typical of its architectural style.

An original fountain was built here in 1517 and shaped the townscape for generations. The current structure was rebuilt in 1872 after earlier damage forced its reconstruction.

The name comes from a stone cross that once marked this spot, holding religious meaning for the medieval community. The fountain served as a gathering place where neighbors met, showing how people organized around essential water sources in those times.
